A tourist has expressed outrage for the supposed violation of privacy on a beach in Cornwall.

There are several webcams overlooking Porthmeor Beach in St Ives. For the most part, the visiting public were unaware of them… until their presence was reported by a concerned female tourist.

The anonymous tourist was a frequent visitor along with her family. And she was disturbed that the webcams could cover so much detail, such as children playing football, which would go against the Data Protection Act 1998’s instructions requiring warning signs.

The marketing manager of Aspects Holiday, Doug Howard, has since responded the webcams are a marketing tactic, used to depict a picturesque view to entice future tourists and that extra security measures are taken to ensure that no violations take place. No sound is recorded and the time-lapse is the only footage that remains.
