CCTV is to be installed three years early on London’s Central Line, after shocking statistics revealed more reported sexual assaults than any other track.
CCTV had been scheduled for installation in 2023, but the London Assembly has called for it to be brought forward after research found a quarter of all sexual assaults on the underground network took place on the line.
Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed it is aware of the issue and more plainclothes police officers have been deployed on the track in recent months. CCTV installation will now begin in 2020 as part of an ongoing modification programme.
