Plans to fund the replacement of dozens of town centre cameras will provide a massive boost to the safety of the town centre.

The plans to upgrade and install numerous new CCTV cameras in Newcastle are going ahead thanks to the £80,000 being pumped into the scheme by the Newcastle Borough Council and the Newcastle Business Improvement District (BID). This would see an ‘outdated’ system, which is now over 20 years old, get a revamp that many believe is much needed.

Not only would this see the 18 existing cameras be replaced, but an additional four will be installed in ‘blind spots’ and the 24 cameras looking over the Midway multi-storey car park will also be switched. The safety of any community is always of paramount importance, and this initiative will ensure that the people of Newcastle are safer than ever before.
