After the results of a report by the Commissioner for Older People in Northern Ireland (COPNI), attempts are being made to put CCTV into nursing homes and to make it a legal requirement of contracts in the future.

Both covert and overt CCTV would be put in place to keep an eye on those caring for the elderly.

This will not be simple, however, as it has been determined that doing so would require a change in the law and new legislation. Work is being undertaken to see how this would be possible, in regards to current laws about privacy and data protection.
