If you’re looking to purchase a new CCTV system then you may want have come across lots of terminology that you don’t understand. Two such terms may be DVR and NVR.

 

DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder and NVR stands for Network Video Recorder. But what is the difference between an NVR and a DVR?

 

A DVR uses dedicated point to point analogue cabling to send the analogue signal from the CCTV camera to it. An NVR uses IP Network technology instead. There are several advantages to an NVR including:

 

  • Higher image quality
  • Remote accessibility
  • Cost effective to install
  • Easier to scale up a system
