How much do you think CCTV helps our society? We already know that it helps bring protection to our streets and we also realise that it allows justice to be done with police able to formally identify suspected criminals. But how else does it aid our day to day lives?

Well, according to recent reports, it massively helps the economy – with newer, hi-tech cameras proving particularly good.

The reason for this is because without CCTV cameras, the number of thefts in the country would be substantially higher as there would be no deterrent for would-be thieves. The ability to retrieve stolen goods from people would also be impossible as there would be no images or evidence to help catch the suspects. According to recently obtained figures, without CCTV in place and because of poor surveillance systems, the UK would lose around £1.5million annually, mostly because of stolen stock and materials not being seized.

Whilst CCTV has been around for many years however, it hasn’t always been helpful. For instance, when it first came out, images were poor and reliability was also suspect. Nowadays though, hi-tech surveillance systems and IP cameras in particular are saving the economy money and are helping businesses keep an eye on any suspicious behaviour.
