CCTV in the UK is very common and in the past 10 years its use has increased rapidly. According to the latest statistics, over £300 million per year is now being spent on CCTV cameras and there are now over 300,000 cameras in public places, with nearly every town and city in the country having at least some form of closed circuit television coverage protecting public areas. These figures would be much more if was possible to account for the numbers of CCTV cameras used on domestic and private commercial premises.
Whilst there have been some concerns raised that the UK is the most watched nation in the world, the use of CCTV is largely supported by the general public in the United Kingdom who recognise how useful it can be not just in solving crimes but in the prevention of crimes in the first place. This indicates that the use of CCTV across the country is likely to increase over the next few years.
