A so-called ‘millionaires’ estate’ in Sutton Coldfield has had plans to install gates and CCTV scrapped, over concerns it would divide the community. Gates and cameras had been proposed at three entrances to Little Aston Park, with residents to the exclusive estate saying it would improve safety and reduce crime in the area.

Those opposed to the plans said it would be socially divisive for the local community, as well as forcing vehicles to reverse on busy main roads if the entrances were blocked for turning. Local councillors expressed concerns that residents outside the estate were being given the message that ‘you don’t belong here’, potentially causing community tensions.
