There are plenty of advantages to having CCTV cameras installed around the perimeter of your home or business. However, one of the many perks must surely be the ability we now have to view CCTV on our phones. In fact, you could view the footage on your tablet, your PC or your Mac. Whatever device you have, chances are you are only a few steps away from being able to access that footage whenever you like.

We’re not just talking about reviewing footage that has already been recorded either. Once you know how to do it, you can access the live feed from your CCTV cameras. It’s a superb way to make sure you are always able to check on your home or business, even if you’re not there to do it in person.

Mobile monitoring makes CCTV protection even more robust

It’s easier than you think to monitor your cameras via your phone or tablet. You will need an app to enable you to do this. If you plan to check footage on both your iPhone and your iPad, for example, you would need to download the app on both.

If you are opting to have your CCTV cameras installed by professionals, make sure they know you want to view CCTV on your phone too (or any other device or computer you have in mind). They will then install the relevant software for you and talk you through how to use it.

Can you control cameras remotely as well as viewing the footage they’re recording?

Sometimes, yes. It depends on the make and model of camera you have installed. If you have yet to get CCTV cameras and you want to be able to do this, make sure you request cameras that will allow you to move them remotely. This is a good feature because it means if you spot someone lurking, you can control the camera to follow them and see where they are going.

The main advantage of remote viewing via a phone

Most of us always carry our phones. Furthermore, more and more areas are covered by internet services. You’ll need internet access regardless of which device you’re using to view your cameras, so this is worth bearing in mind. However, once you have service, you can view the footage whenever it suits you. That gives you the best thing of all – peace of mind.
